About

Person-Centred Counsellor
Angus Watson MBACP

Hi, I’m Angus a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and registered member of the BACP, based in Skipton. I offer face-to-face & online Person-Centred counselling that puts you at the heart of every session. Having worked in the charitable sector for over 8 years, with a particular focus on community and disability services it has formed my awareness of the complexities, challenges, and unpredictability that makes us human.

Every experience of sadness, anxiety, or distress I encounter reveals its own logic when examined with care and understanding. I appreciate everyone’s individuality and uniqueness, however, being seen, heard, and understood can be very important in dealing with difficult life issues.

When you share whatever is weighing on your mind, whether it’s anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem, together, in a compassionate and safe therapeutic space, we can begin the journey towards coping and finding a way forward.

Starting counselling can be challenging and feelings of anxiety from taking the first step are common. So, let’s meet together and speak about how I can support you.

My approach & what I can support you with

The core principles of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard are central to my therapeutic approach. I will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.

Depression & Anxiety

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by persistent worry, anxiety, or low mood, person-centred therapy provides a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your feelings. I offer unconditional positive regard, which allows you to gain clarity around your emotions, helping you feel more grounded and in control of your experience. This approach encourages self-compassion and understanding as you work through difficult emotions.

Low Self-Esteem

Many people experience feelings of inadequacy or low self-worth, often stemming from various life experiences. In person-centred therapy, the empathetic and accepting approach helps you rebuild your self-esteem, offering the space to reconnect with your true sense of self. This process supports personal growth and a deeper understanding of who you are, allowing you to feel more confident and valued in your own life.

Relationship Difficulties

Challenges in personal or professional relationships often bring clients to seek therapy. Whether it’s communication breakdowns, unresolved conflicts, or unhealthy patterns, I invite you to explore your relationships openly. I won’t impose solutions or judgments; instead, I provide a supportive environment that allows for deeper insights and a clearer understanding of your relational dynamics, encouraging healthier connections as we work together.

Life Transitions

Major life changes such as divorce, loss, or career transitions can leave you feeling lost or unsure of your identity. In our person-centred therapy sessions, I provide a supportive space for you to explore these challenges, helping you rediscover your values and sense of direction. Together, we’ll work to reconnect with what truly matters, enabling you to navigate your journey with clarity and purpose.

“Angus helped me more than anyone will ever know, the sessions meant the world to me, hopefully someone else can benefit from this wonderful service.”

FAQ's

How often are sessions?

In my person-centred counselling approach, I hold sessions weekly at the same time slot. This regularity is designed to create stability for you, providing a secure foundation as we explore your thoughts and feelings therapeutically. The frequency allows us to build momentum in your journey, ensuring that you have consistent support as you navigate your personal experiences.

I charge £50 per session both in person and online.

In my person-centred counselling approach, the number of sessions you might need is entirely unique to you. Many of my clients find that starting with 6 to 12 sessions provides a solid foundation for exploration. However, I offer an open-ended space where we can work at your own pace. Some clients choose to continue for several months, depending on their personal journey and goals. What’s essential is that we maintain an open dialogue about your needs and experiences as we progress together.

Background:

I have over 8 years of experience working in the charitable sector within West Yorkshire, most recently within Disability Advocacy services. I have led a person centred disability program for people with lived experience. This work supports people to experience the best life they can live on their terms. I carried out this work all whilst practicing counselling with clients in the Pendle region for the past two years with a variety of clientele. The combination of my experience has given me an appreciation of the variety of trauma, anxiety and distress people face which informs my approach to therapy.

I deliver sessions from the Divergent Space in Central Skipton, on Victoria Street. Check out the location page from the menu to find out more about the room.

The initial consultation will take place over Zoom and will last around 20 minutes. This is your chance to share what has prompted you to seek counselling and to determine whether I am the right fit for your needs

I offer flexible counselling options to suit your schedule. In addition to in-person sessions in Skipton, I provide online counselling via Zoom. This convenient option allows you to access professional support from the comfort of your home, anywhere in the UK, at a time that works for you.
